3 possibilities:

1. persistent juvenile T-waves are not a constant phenomenon.  They actually come and go.  See this post: https://hqmeded-ecg.blogspot.com/2015/01/persistent-juvenile-t-wave-pattern.html

2. The patient was quite ill (DKA) and metabolic disruptions are well known to affect the EKG.

3. New, unexplained phenomenon.
